Waiting....

Is such a misery....

On a more pleasing (to me) note, on my last day of on-call, I managed to sent a subarachnoid haemorrhage from the island to the neurosurgery theatre at the specialist centre for hydrocephalus drainage in less than 10-12 hours time(from the time he was wheeled to A&E). I was kinda thinking with rapid deteriorating GCS 11/15 to GCS 3/15, Cushing reflex in all its glory, respiratory acidosis, apnoea breathing and we had to intubate him before wheeling him down to CT, we might not have much to offer. Lo and behold, they took him over and we managed to get air ambulance and anaesthetist to fly him over to the mainland. Very sad thing to happen to a fit non-smoker 40-ish year old guy without any significant past medical history, and no history of headache. I was initially thinking of hypertensive encephalopathy with his admission BP of 250/130.

I was imagining what his wife and family must be feeling - just in one day,or seconds even, their whole life has been turned upside-down. One minute you could be living your dream, the next minute everything turn to dust.
